Igniting a Spark: How DMTT is Changing SAHCC

The Disciple-Making Team Training (DMTT) has been more than just a training—it has ignited a spark that has drawn our church family closer together at San Antonio Heights Community Church (SAHCC). For me, walking through the training and continuing to meet with others who have done the same has opened the door to meaningful friendships and a shared sense of purpose. We now share the same language, vision, and rhythm of life as the Activate(d) ones. There’s something deeply encouraging about realizing we’re not walking this road of discipleship alone, but locking arms with others who are wholeheartedly pursuing Jesus alongside us.

Pastor Nick has shared how the DMTT has quietly but powerfully shifted the way people at SAHCC think about discipleship. He described it perfectly when he noted that participants began to realize: “Oh, this is what discipleship looks like—walking with someone, asking questions, and digging into the Bible together.” For many, that simple insight has been life-changing. Discipleship stopped feeling like just another program to attend and started becoming about real, intentional relationships. People began asking deeper questions, listening with care, and noticing how God was moving in the small, everyday moments of life. Gradually, our church culture has been transforming—from simply “going to church” toward truly being the church, together.

What has been especially exciting for me is watching the youth embrace the heart of the DMTT, even without formally participating in the training. In their small groups, they began asking one another the simple but powerful question: “What has God been doing in, through, and around you?” That one question opened the door to honest, vulnerable sharing. Teens began telling real stories of how God was meeting them in struggles, shaping their friendships, and stirring their hearts.

The beauty is in the simplicity. This question gave them a framework to talk about their faith naturally and confidently. Some of the teens even shared that it gave them something practical to hold onto in conversations about Jesus. What moves me most is seeing them light up with excitement as they hear how their friends are experiencing God. Discipleship is no longer just something adults do—it’s alive in the next generation, reminding all of us that following Jesus is a shared journey for the whole body of Christ.

This is the heartbeat of From Seed to Vine: each one, reach one. One person locking arms with another, who then walks alongside someone else, and so on—like a growing chain of love and encouragement. Discipleship multiplies when ordinary people take the simple step to invest in one another. The DMTT has shown us that it doesn’t have to be complicated—just walk together, step by step, with hearts open to where God is leading.

My prayer is that God would bring to mind someone in your life who you can reach out to—someone you might walk alongside and invite into the journey of discipleship. May He give you the courage to take that first step, the wisdom to guide gently, and the joy of watching Him work in both your life and theirs.
